Causes of disease
The six climatic excesses, the seven emotions, and miscellaneous causes, with their clinical signatures.
How it starts
Chinese medicine sorts the causes of disease into three groups: those that come from outside, those that arise within, and those that are neither. Each one leaves a recognizable signature in the shape of the symptom—not in its location—and that signature is what you learn here.
The rest of the lesson opens with Acupuntura I.
In this lesson you will learn
- Recognize the clinical signature of each of the six climatic factors.
- Explain how each emotion acts on Qi and which organ it affects.
- Weigh the importance of the miscellaneous causes—diet, rhythm of life, trauma, constitution.
- Tell an external factor that has invaded from one generated within.
What is inside
- 1The six excesses (Liu Yin)
- 2The seven emotions (Qi Qing)
- 3The miscellaneous causes
- 4Pathogens generated within
