Observation and tongue diagnosis
Shen, color, shape; the zone map, body and coating, and the fifteen most common tongue pictures.
How it starts
Chinese diagnosis is done through four examinations: looking (Wang), listening and smelling (Wen), asking (Wen), and palpating (Qie). This lesson covers the first, and within it, the tool that gives the best return for the time invested: the tongue.
The rest of the lesson opens with Acupuntura I.
In this lesson you will learn
- Carry out the general observation (Shen, complexion, build) in the first few seconds.
- Examine the tongue methodically: five things, always in the same order.
- Interpret the tongue body and the tongue coating separately, then combine them.
- Recognize the fifteen most common tongue presentations.
- Know what invalidates a reading.
