Pulse, inquiry, and palpation

The three positions and three depths, the 16 pulses you need to know, and the ten classical questions.

Lesson 22 of 26
Course: Acupuntura I

How it starts

The patient has just climbed two flights of stairs, come back from a run, had coffee, or is in the middle of a heated phone argument: the pulse at that moment does not reflect their underlying state. Wait five minutes. And do not take the pulse of a patient who has just come in from the street in winter: the cold makes it tense and sinks it.

The rest of the lesson opens with Acupuntura I.

In this lesson you will learn

  • Take the pulse with correct technique and read the three broad axes.
  • Recognize the sixteen named pulses used in practice.
  • Run a complete inquiry using the ten classic questions.
  • Use palpation of the abdomen, channels, and Shu points as confirmation.
