The eight confluent points
The four pairs that open the extraordinary vessels and their immediate clinical use.
How it starts
Of the eight Extraordinary Vessels, only two —Du Mai and Ren Mai— have points of their own. The other six are reached through a point on a regular channel that communicates with them: these are the eight confluent points, and they are used in pairs.
The rest of the lesson opens with Acupuncture II.
In this lesson you will learn
- Memorize the four pairs and the territories they govern.
- Apply the opening and crossed-coupling technique.
- Choose the right pair based on the affected region.
- Understand why these eight points give access to channels that have no points of their own.

Acupuncture IIChannels and Points
“The complete map of the body, channel by channel.”
A systematic tour of the fourteen channels and their points: categories (Five Shu points, Yuan, Luo, Xi, Mu, Back-Shu, Hui, confluent), the pathway of each channel, key points with their exact locations, the eight extraordinary vessels, the extra points, and the rules for combining points.
By the end of the course, you will know how to
- Recite the pathway of the fourteen channels and their key points.
- Choose a point by its category, not from a memorized list.
- Accurately locate the 120 points used every day.
- Open an extraordinary vessel with its paired confluent point.
- Build a point formula with logic, not by recipe.
