Four levels and Sanjiao (Wen Bing)
Wei, Qi, Ying, Xue, and the progression of Heat. When to use one map or the other.
How it starts
Fifteen hundred years after the Shanghan Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage), Chinese physicians ran into epidemics that did not fit the model: they began with a high fever from the start, with no aversion to cold, with a sore throat, and they progressed much faster. These were presentations of Heat from the very beginning, not Cold that transforms into Heat.
The rest of the lesson opens with Acupuncture III.
In this lesson you will learn
- Recognize the four levels and their increasing severity.
- Tell a Cold presentation from a Heat presentation on day one.
- Apply the treatment rule for each level.
- Decide which of the three major models to use in each case.

Acupuncture IIIClinical Practice
“From pattern to needle, with the patient in front of you.”
The real consultation: differential diagnosis of patterns, the great classical systems (six stages, four levels, Sanjiao), Nakatani's Ryodoraku protocol with electrodermal measurement, and reasoned protocols by body system. It ends with clinical management, applied chronoacupuncture, and an integrated case.
By the end of the course, you will know how to
- Differentiate Zang-Fu patterns from tongue, pulse, and symptoms.
- Apply the six stages and the four levels to a febrile presentation.
- Perform and interpret a complete Ryodoraku measurement.
- Design a reasoned treatment for the twenty most common reasons for consultation.
- Keep a clinical record and follow-up with clear referral criteria.
