Name and classical tradition

Lanwei, 阑尾, is the anatomical name for the appendix: 阑 (闌), the end, what closes; 尾, tail. It is found by palpation, about two cun below ST36, Zusanli, at the most tender spot, and the name tells you what it is used for.

Like EX-LE6, Dannang, it is a 20th-century point with a name taken from Western anatomy: classical medicine did not know the appendix as an organ. It is a good example of how modern acupuncture added points for diseases defined by Western medicine, while locating them, of course, with the traditional method of tenderness to pressure.

Do you use EX-LE7 with your patients?

In the Clinic you record it in the patient's file, next to the tongue, the pulse and the measurements, so at the next session you know exactly what you used. The Atlas is built in.
