Name and classical tradition

Waihuaijian, 外踝尖, is the “tip of the lateral malleolus”: 外, outside; 踝, ankle; 尖, tip. It is the counterpart of EX-LE8, at the most prominent point of the outer bone.

The Zhenjiu Dacheng (Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) describes it as follows: «外踝尖二穴,在足外踝骨尖上是穴,可灸七壯,治腳外廉轉筋,及治寒熱腳氣,宜三稜針出血», moxa for cramps on the outer side of the leg, and bloodletting with a three-edged needle for beriberi with fever and chills. It lies between BL60, Kunlun, behind the malleolus, and GB40, Qiuxu, in front of it.

Protocols for the 20 patterns you see most in practice

Each pattern with its tongue, its pulse, the treatment principle and the points to tonify and disperse. Made for the treatment table, not the bookshelf.

Do you use EX-LE9 with your patients?

In the Clinic you record it in the patient's file, next to the tongue, the pulse and the measurements, so at the next session you know exactly what you used. The Atlas is built in.
