Name and classical tradition
Jiaosun, 角孙, combines 角, the angle or corner, with 孙 (孫), the grandchild, and by extension the minor branch, as in 孫絡, the finest collaterals. The simplest reading places the point at the upper angle of the ear, on the hairline, over one of those minor branches. There is also a gloss based on Five Phases correspondences, highly speculative, which should not be taken as an ancient meaning.
Its textual origin is more concrete than that of its neighbors: the sources trace it to the Lingshu (Spiritual Pivot), to the chapter Han Re Bing (寒熱病), though without a literal citation. The Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) records it as “手足少陽、手太陽之會”, a crossing point of the hand and foot Shaoyang and the hand Taiyang. It is one of several channel crossings concentrated around the ear.
