Name and classical tradition

Yingchuang (膺窗) is the “chest window.” 膺 is the front of the thorax; 窗 is the window. It is the last name in the architectural series that the Stomach channel unfolds across the chest: after the gate of ST13, the storehouse of ST14, and the hidden room of ST15, the window arrives. The usual reading is that the point opens the chest and relieves the sensation of oppression.

The Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) locates it with the same measure it uses for its neighbor: “膺窗,在屋翳下一寸六分”, one cun and six fen below Wuyi. The regularity of these distances between chest points shows the care with which Huangfu Mi arranged the points of this region. No alternative names are known for it.

Protocols for the 20 patterns you see most in practice

Each pattern with its tongue, its pulse, the treatment principle and the points to tonify and disperse. Made for the treatment table, not the bookshelf.

Do you use ST16 with your patients?

In the Clinic you record it in the patient's file, next to the tongue, the pulse and the measurements, so at the next session you know exactly what you used. The Atlas is built in.
